Floor Well

Over the past 8 years, Stouenborg has come across a multitude of different projects that required some special solutions. Stouenborg has therefore developed and produced 2 unique floor well solutions that can be adapted to the project's needs and possibilities in the floor structure.

Floor drains have always been a challenge when you wanted to use AV and still follow the standards of the event industry in terms of plugs and cables. This is because the event and AV industry uses plugs and cables that do not necessarily fit into, for example, a standard electrician's floor well.

Furthermore, AV and event plugs often take up more space, which means that most floor drains are not deep enough for the plug to be inserted and the lid of the floor drain to be closed when the floor drain is in use. We set out to change this together with the University of Copenhagen and Aarhus School of Architecture during the construction of their new auditoriums.

The design has been developed with a focus on maintaining the standards within the event industry by using AV and connector types commonly used in the industry. The connectors are angled in such a way that the lid can be closed after installation while the cables are still connected. This has the advantage of reducing the risk of the floor wells becoming filled with dirt as they can remain closed during use.

Stouenborg has developed a special floor well, which has been created to fit low-height floor structures, down to 36mm. This solution also uses AV and plug types that are commonly used in the event industry and may be suitable for use in, for example, listed buildings, where there are restrictions on the possibilities of changing the floor height to a greater extent.

As Stouenborg are manufacturers of these two types of floor wells, it is also possible to change the shape and adapt the floor wells in terms of specific measurements, sizes and contents.

The floor well is used on projects such as LIFE Campus, Mærsk Tower and Aarhus School of Architecture.
