The Viking town of Lejre is perhaps best known for its large outdoor exhibition "Sagnlandet Lejre", where you can get a taste of Viking life by feeding wild boar or baking flatbread over the fire. But not too far from the fairytale land is the Lejre Museum in an idyllic little white farm. The little pearl of a museum contains – despite its traditional appearance – a multitude of modern, interactive installations.

Stouenborg was the advisor and total supplier of all lighting, sound and AV for the museums new permanent exhibition "The Camps of the Legends", which was inaugurated in 2016. The exhibition illustrates the heyday of the Camps in the years 500-1000 through various archaeological finds and stories from the era, and with the help of a little modern technology makes the story as alive as the Vikings tending the wild boars and the fires in the fairytale land next door.

The exhibition is divided into three parts, where the audience is gradually led further and further into the story. Everything is of course interactive, and you can e.g. translate the runes from stone tablets by placing the tablet on a small table, which projects the translation onto a corresponding screen. In addition to the various installations, Stouenborg made a great effort to create an atmospheric atmosphere, e.g. throughthe soundscapes  with muted background noise such as wind and various small sounds, so that you as an audience never feel alone in the exhibition. The lighting also played a big role, because the design had to be able to take into account the old building and the low ceiling height.

With its mix of information and genuine archaeological finds, the museum manages to pick out a small part of Denmarks history and immerse its audience thoroughly and engaged in Lejres past as a Viking center.
